How the north ward pots were spent this year

20 Mar

Each year the ward councillors across the city are given a ward pot. This is to spend on local projects to help improve the community. As well as giving grants to many community groups to help them keep up their great work, some specific projects were funded through the ward pot.

This year the Stannington Ward Councillors supported the Friends of Stannington Library to take on running the library.

In the West Ecclesfield Ward the Councillors chose to fund Activity Sheffield to run summer activities in the area.

A pilot project to get befriending volunteers linked to lunch clubs was set up in the East Ecclesfield Ward.

And in Stocksbridge the Steel Valley Project was giving funding to help them take on and support extra volunteers.

Volunteering in North Sheffield

6 Feb

The benefits of volunteering can be enormous to you, your family, and your community. The right volunteering opportunity can help you find friends, reach out to the community, learn new skills, and even advance your career. It can also help improve your mental and physical health. You could start volunteering at a local organisation you know or contact the Volunteer Centre for a wider choice. You can download the North Sheffield Volunteer Booklet, this has lots of information about local groups who need volunteers.

Volunteer Fair in Chapeltown

5 Sep

Have you ever considered volunteering but not known how to go about it? Then the Volunteer Fair is for you. There are lots of local  and city wide organisations that need volunteers to help them continue their good work.

Citywide organisations and local organisations from across Ecclesfield, Grenoside, High Green and Chapeltown will be coming along to the Volunteer Fair to tell people about the volunteering opportunities with them. Volunteering opportunities will range from work with older people, to environmental roles and in libraries. Hopefully there will be something there to suit everyone’s interests.

The benefits of volunteering can be enormous to you, your family, and your community. The right volunteering opportunity can help you find friends, reach out to the community, learn new skills, and even advance your career. It can also help improve your mental and physical health.

The event will be open from 1.00 to 4.00pm on Wednesday the 17th of September at Newton Memorial Hall, Cowley Lane, Chapeltown. 5 ways to improve well being

7 May

Just saw this and thought it would be good to share – 5 ways to improve well being

Improving health and well being is one of the ‘Local Area Partnership’ priorities for the north Sheffield area. This ‘Local Area Partnership’ is made up of organisations and departments that work in the north area to improve health and wellbeing and local councillors.

The group are currently looking at what we can do to reduce social isolation, how to ensure more people know about activities in the area and how to get more people online so that they can access vital services more easily.
