Sheffield ski village and the surrounding area is a step closer to making a ramped up return to the city as part of a world-class sports, leisure and entertainment development bringing hundreds of jobs to the city.

Sheffield Council has appointed the EXTREME Destinations-led consortium to deliver a 48-acre long-term sustainable EXTREME branded sports, leisure and entertainment solution at Parkwood, Sheffield’s country park in the city, following a competitive bidding process.

An initial 100 new full-time jobs are expected to result from the £22.5million development, which should see the re-instatement of Sheffield’s much-loved ski slopes and MTB tracks in phase one of the project.

The agreement between Sheffield City Council and EXTREME Destinations, in partnership with leading UK facilities operator Continuum Attractions, will see the development, provision and operation of a world-class sports and leisure ‘experience’ complex with exciting and modern facilities for residents, tourists and action sports enthusiasts alike in the heart of Sheffield city.

EXTREME’s unique brand and destination experience will incorporate a combination of action and adventure sports facilities, including the possibility of an indoor sky diving facility, live music, E-Gaming and virtual-reality hub as well as a restaurants, bars, social spaces, retail and themed accommodation.

Ecclesfield Library trustees show cover artwork for writers group's anthology

BOOK LAUNCH EVENT IN ECCLESFIELD LIBRARY

Ecclesfield Library is set to hold its first ever book launch event at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 29th November 2017 when the creative writing group that meets there will unveil ‘Tales from the Library’ before an invited audience. The book is an anthology of original tales and poems. It represents Ecclesfield Library Writers Group’s first foray into publishing.

‘Tales from the Library’ is published through Amazon, and is available in a paper version at £4.50 or as a Kindle download for just 99 pence.

“We are thrilled to be able to support the talented writing group at the library in this venture,” said Ecclesfield Library’s chair of trustees Schani Cave. “We are also honoured that the writing group has taken the generous step of offering to donate any royalties from the book at the time we mark three years of the library being saved by volunteers… an exciting future for us all.

Writers group organiser Sharon Smith said, “As a group, we want the opportunity to see our work in print. ‘Tales from the Library’ will achieve that aim for us and, at the same time, allow us to give something back to Ecclesfield Library who host our meetings: all proceeds from the sale of the book will help support the work of the volunteers who keep Ecclesfield Library open as a community resource.”

Adult writers of all experience levels and writing genres are welcome at the writers group, and the first session is free. The group is friendly and informal, however, members are serious about their aim of publishing an anthology every year.
