Local Community Groups invited to the Sheffield Housing Conversations Re-launch 1st Nov 2017

30 Oct

We are a group of students from the University of Sheffield, studying our Masters in Architecture. We are currently working on a group ‘live’ project with the Sheffield Housing conversations collective. Where have been helping them widen their outreach and gather research into the local housing problems in Sheffield.

As a group we feel very strongly that the SHC collective will only be strengthened by a strong presence of local community groups. As such we are organising a relaunch of the collective on the 1st November 2017. We are planning to showcase the results of our six week project and our proposal for the collective moving forward. This relaunch will mark a new start for the collective, one which will now include all the community voices we have engaged with over the project, which hopefully will translate into more local voices being heard.

We would absolutely love it if a representative from your group can pop by! The exhibition will be on from 12-8.30 pm, with a series of short talks by guest speakers who are involved in community led approaches to the housing crisis here in Sheffield starting at 6.30pm

Are you missing out ? £3.3 billion in Pension Credit remains unclaimed by older people every year

25 Oct

The Department of Work and Pensions is urging older people to claim Pension Credit to top up their retirement income.

More than £3.3 billion in Pension Credit remains unclaimed by older people every year despite so many pensioners struggling financially. These are benefits designed to help people on a low income and could make a real difference to their lives if claimed. official figures released recently show that four in ten pensioners could be missing out, with more than £3.3 billion going unclaimed – an average annual amount of £2,000 for each entitled family who do not claim.

Many of those missing out simply aren’t aware they could be entitled to extra support; others are aware of the benefits but feel too embarrassed or proud to put in a claim; and some have previously put in an unsuccessful claim or have been put off by the claiming process which they feel is too complicated or intrusive”.

“Age UK advisers are on hand to help and we would urge any older person who is worried about money to get in touch with us by calling our national advice line free of charge on 0800 169 6565, or contacting a local Age UK.

For more information on Pension Credit, visit
where a Pension Credit calculator can establish if you’re eligible and how much you could get. To make a claim, call 0800 991234 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm).

To find out what you could receive, and the earliest you can claim it. Visit
