Public Consultation on priorities for Police and Crime Plan

26 Sep

Just want to make you aware of a campaign that is to get underway with effect from tomorrow aimed at encouraging the public of South Yorkshire to have their say about what is important to them from the police & crime perspective. Not only is this engagement a requirement for the Commissioner, but it now forms part of the minimum standards or expectations that Local Criminal Justice Boards/ Partnerships should ensure views of victims, witnesses and members of the public feed into the prioritisation, planning & delivery discussions, and to operate in an open and transparent manner.

Details of the campaign are detailed on the PCC’s website. Follow the link: This is Your South Yorkshire – Have Your Say

The campaign starts this Friday, 26 September, and will focus on one geographical area per week with a round-up of views in the final week on 24 October relating to the whole of the South Yorkshire area. The schedule is as follows:

  • Barnsley, Friday 26 September – 8am to 8pm
  • Doncaster, Friday 03 October – 8am to 8pm
  • Rotherham, Friday 10 October – 8am to 8pm
  • Sheffield, Friday 17 October – 8am to 8pm
  • South Yorkshire-wide, Friday 24 October – 8am to 8pm

· Special offers to thank customers for patience during rail replacement project

· Tram services resumed on schedule this month following 2014 works

· Project on track to ensure the integrity of the network for decades to come

Stagecoach Supertram has introduced a range of special offer tickets for passengers as a thank you for their patience during the rail replacement project taking place across the network.

The discounted tickets, which are available from Monday 29 September, have been introduced following the end of this year’s phase of work which was finished on time.

Existing megarider Xtra customers will receive emails this week informing them that their payments will be discounted by 25% for the next six weeks. Any new customers wanting to make the most of this offer will also pay the reduced rate of £31.50 per month until 9 November.

In addition, two new promotional tram only tickets are also being made available. The tram only dayrider ticket provides unlimited travel across the entire network on any chosen day of the week for only £3*. The tram only megarider provides seven days unlimited travel across the network for only £10.**

The company’s tram only Adult Single ticket for longer journeys has also been reduced to £1.70, a saving of 50p per journey, until 12 October.

Stagecoach Supertram Managing Director Margaret Kay said, “We’re offering these discounts to say thank you to passengers who have been patient with us during the recent rail replacements works. We understand that some of our customers will have been inconvenienced recently because of this crucial work and we appreciate their understanding during this time.”

The £32 million rail replacement project is funded by tram network owner South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) and system operator Stagecoach Supertram. To date 9km of track has been replaced with a further 13km to be replaced over the next couple of years. The next stage of works will begin in Spring 2015. This is essential work which will help to protect the city’s tram network for the future for up to 30 years.

The early completion of this second phase of repair works follows the first phase of replacement work over summer last year on the section of track between Spring Lane and Park Grange Croft tram stops.

Light Night 2014

25 Sep

Calling local artists and venues!

Sunday 23rd November 1-8pm, Sheffield City Centre

We want to unlock the doors of spaces we don’t ordinarily get to see, animate places in a completely new way and celebrate what Sheffield has to offer for all ages. Maybe it’s a film screening, a comedy sketch, dancing….we want to challenge our perceptions and engage with new people in new spaces providing an exciting event for all ages!

This is a small event, complementing the activities taking place in the city centre for the Light Switch on, for which the Sheffield City Council expect 30,000 people. We accept applications from all ages and backgrounds and will endeavour to find any successful application with a suitable venue.

  • Artists proposal: Please return by 5pm Monday 13th October
  • Voluntary intern position: Please return by Midday, Thursday 16th October

· Light Night Steward (included in the intern pack): Please return by Midday Monday 3rd November

· Venues already holding an event, wanting to be part of the programme or interested in having something curated in the space please contact luisa asap

Why get involved:

This is great opportunity to showcase your work, try something new and use city centre locations as a platform. We want performers, visual artists, musicians, poets, comedians, community groups; anyone who has an idea that will support us to celebrate Sheffield and its creativity.

This is a competitive process and we are looking for:

  • High quality proposals that bring innovative creative activity into the city centre
  • Ability to manage and run a successful event (including all technical and safety aspects)
  • We will aim to have between 10-15 successful proposals.
  • Please note there is no funding to support submissions this year. We can offer support in terms of publicity, planning and delivery. If you are under 25 years old we do have access to o2 Think Big funding of up to £300. We are happy for people to sell or charge for entrance to their activity/workshops.
