Building could start as early as December 2014 and will be completed by January 2016.

Sheffield City Council in partnership with the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine, Sport England and Ecclesfield Parish Council is proposing the development of a new swimming and leisure facility to serve the north of Sheffield.

Why are you calling it ‘North Active’?

It’s a working title for now – but we wanted to get across that the new facility is more than just a pool. The health activities and consultation rooms will be a new venture in bringing health and activity together in a seamless way under one roof and will include the following facilities;

  • 25m six lane swimming pool
  • Learner pool
  • Gym with 40 exercise stations
  • Exercise / dance studio
  • Health consultation rooms

The proposal is to develop the new facility on the Thorncliffe Recreation Ground in High Green. This is the preferred location because it provides an excellent opportunity to complement, enhance and develop sport for the whole site, with access off Pack Horse Lane. This access will include long awaited improvements to the Lane including the installation of a new footpath. It is expected that these improvements will improve road safety and benefit neighbouring properties, including the school. The facility will have its own car park so will not create traffic issues on Park Horse Lane.

On Tuesday 22nd July Kier Construction, the design and build team, will be in Chapelton Pool from 2pm to 4pm and Ecclesfield Parish Council Community Room from 4.30pm to 6.45pm to talk to interested individuals. There will be displays and computer images of the proposed new design.

Please come along, talk to the team and share your ideas.

CSV Volunteers Supporting Families Project

8 Jul

CSV, the UK’s number one volunteering and learning charity, has recently launched its award winning Volunteers Supporting Families (VSF) Project in Sheffield. VSF works with families where the children are on a CIN or CP plan and provides volunteers from the local community to give additional support to struggling families in times of need. We aim to support families to make positive, sustainable changes in their lives to achieve positive outcomes and keep families together.

The VSF project is currently looking to recruit more volunteers from a wide cross section of Sheffield to represent the families we are supporting. If you or your organisation have any avenues whereby you would be able to display/distribute the attached poster or leaflets in order to help us publicise the project it would be greatly appreciated. If you would like paper copies sending through then please contact me and we can post them or pop in ourselves to deliver what you need. If you have any meetings you would like us to attend or would like to meet me in person to discuss the project we are available to come out to a location convenient for you.

If you have any questions about the project, or if you or someone you know may be interested in volunteering, please do not hesitate to get in touch on the contact details below.

We would like to hear from you about the proposal we have put together and would appreciate you taking the time to answer 6 questions via our online survey. Please click on the link. The closing date is Friday 1st August at 5pm.
