Ecclesfield Library Meeting – Update

Many local people attended a meeting about the proposed closure of Ecclesfield Library on Wednesday 20th November. Cllr Mazher Iqbal (Cabinet Member for Inclusion and Communities) gave a presentation about the Library Review that Sheffield City Council are currently undertaking. After the presentation and discussion, there were some workshops held on how the Ecclesfield community might be able to keep the library.

The Friends of Ecclesfield Library Group that has formed would like to get as many local people as possible involved in the group and what they doing to save the library.

Pop up shops this Saturday 23rd November from 6 pm will be Jason Ladies Designer Fashion wear, handbags, scarves and jewellery. Yve Newton with homemade cake and retro sweets, Kerry with children’s character toys and beanies, and Chef on a Bike Dave Foster will be here with delicious breads, pizza and something for tea!

Healthwatch Sheffield and Disability Sheffield are holding a joint discussion forum on Adult Social Care.

  • Video Editing Taster – Thursday 12th December 9.30am to 12.30pm
  • Introduction to Family History – Thursday 12th December 1pm to 4pm
  • E-mail for Beginners – Friday 13th December 10am to 12pm

The two hour classes are £8 per learner and the three Hour Classes are £12 per learner.

Pop Up Shops at The Venue

The Venue in Stocksbridge is bringing a new idea to Saturday evenings on the run up to Christmas – POP UP shops. The trend for Pop up’s is growing; the idea is that a shop appears – “pops up” for a short time then disappears. The Venue will be hosting 4 pop ups each Saturday starting on 16th November from 6pm until late on the run up to it’s Christmas Fayre on the 14th December – shops will change each week and customers will have the chance to experience and see something new each time they visit. It’s a great way to find something special as a gift, or to buy an unusual and original item that can’t be found on the high street.

The Pop up shops will continue every Saturday as follows:

Planting day at the Community Garden at the corner of Ben Lane and Rural Lane, near to the Wisewood Sports Centre and opposite the Wisewood shops.  Everyone is welcome, bring boots or wellies.
The Friends of Wisewood and District has been awarded funds to transform an area of their local community into a haven for pollinators through the Co-ops Pollinator Patches competition.

On Tuesday 19 November volunteers will be asked to plant fruit trees, install climbing plants alongside the wooden trellis that leads from the main gates and spread wildflower seeds over the new top soil that has recently been laid.

Please come along and help transform this area from 10am.  Refreshments (tea, coffee and even some biccies) and toilets will be available in the RIVA building (the blue building near to the exit from the Sports Centre).

Final call to sign up for free snow shovels

The Streets Ahead team (Sheffield City Council and Amey) are encouraging people to help clear snow from pavements in their local area this winter and have more than 450 free snow shovels to give out.

We want people to volunteer from all over Sheffield – please register interest in a shovel by 30 November by:

  • Emailing Please provide your name and the Sheffield address and postcode of the area you will use your shovel in.

Requests will be considered after the closing date. (Please note that registering details will not automatically guarantee a snow shovel).

Volunteers will be provided with a shovel, snow clearing and safety advice and a high-vis vest. We are encouraging everyone to use grit from the grit bins and are unable to give bags of grit to individuals.
